FISHING

Oman is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and species-rich fishing destinations in the world,
where the variety of techniques you can use is just as vast...

From spinning to popping, jigging, and even fishing from shore!

AN ENDLESS VARIETY OF SPECIES !

The waters of Oman are a true paradise for fishing enthusiasts, offering an incredible variety of marine species that present challenges for every type of angler. Here are some of the main catches you can encounter during your fishing adventure:

  1. Smaller Predators : If you enjoy light tackle fishing, you’ll have the chance to battle numerous species of Trevallies, emperors, Oman bream, and tuna species. These fish provide exciting fights and plenty of action.

  2. Medium to Large Predators : For those seeking a tougher challenge, Oman offers a selection of powerful predators that will put your skills to the test. Amberjacks, which can even be caught on topwater, as well as queenfish, groupers, mahi-mahi, and other large trevallies exceeding 10 kg, make every trip unforgettable.

  3. The True Stars of Oman : No fishing trip to Oman would be complete without targeting the two species that have made it famous: Giant Trevally (GT) and Yellowfin Tuna. GTs can easily exceed 50 kg, delivering explosive action, while Yellowfin Tuna, reaching up to 100 kg, provide legendary battles that push anglers to their limits.

FISHING SEASONS

In the southern waters of Oman, the fishing season runs from autumn to spring, as summer is dominated by monsoons and strong, constant winds that make both shore and boat fishing impossible.

Throughout the year, all species can be targeted, with seasonal peaks for certain predators, which we break down below:

Autumn

Autumn is undoubtedly the most exciting fishing season, ideal for spinning and jigging, as nearly every species found in these waters is present in great numbers.

Winter

Winter is a transitional period, but the action remains thrilling. Yellowfin Tuna arrive in abundance, ensuring a nearly constant presence of large pelagic fish.

Spring

While smaller predators can still provide plenty of fun, spring marks the best time of year for targeting big pelagic species, especially Giant Trevally (GT) and Yellowfin Tuna of all sizes.

TACKLE

Many different techniques require a lot of gear... let's get organized to make the most of it!

Medium/Light Spinning:

For this technique, we recommend rods up to 8 feet capable of casting up to 60g, paired with a size 5000 reel loaded with braided line from PE 2 to PE 3... and the fun is guaranteed! ;)

Jigging:

Here, the catches become more challenging and the lures change. Great jigging combos include a 7-foot rod, size 8000 reel loaded with PE 3 / 4 braid, and 0.60mm leaders. Currents are often strong, so we recommend using jigs weighing between 150g and 300g.

Popping and Heavy Spinning:

This is where things get serious as we enter the tough world of targeting the giants of Oman. For GTs, we recommend rods in the PE 8 - 12 range, size 14000 - 20000 reels, PE 8 - 12 braided lines, and leaders from 150 to 300 lb. For tuna, we can use gear in the PE 8 - 10 range with leaders from 150 - 200 lb.

Inshore Fishing

Inshore fishing can be enjoyed both from a boat or from the shore, offering a wide variety of species. This is the realm of medium to light spinning.

Offshore Fishing

Offshore fishing is best during the peak season for Yellowfin Tuna, where you can encounter large schools of tuna in all sizes.

Hallaniyat Islands

The Hallaniyat Islands, easily accessible by boat every morning from the coast or by camping on the islands themselves, offer a vast and varied environment. From shallow reefs perfect for jigging, to popping reefs, and even coastal stretches ideal for spinning, there's something for every angler.

Whether you're targeting small predators or the mighty Giant Trevally (GT), the fun is guaranteed, all while surrounded by breathtaking landscapes that seem to come straight from a prehistoric era.
